Billing Bootcamp: How to Bill Each Major Insurance Company for Medical Nutrition Therapy

This training will be the playbook you reference every time you bill for MNT. If you’ve ever felt confused, overwhelmed, or frustrated by insurance nuances (… so basically every dietitian ever), this is the class that will change that.

You’ll walk away able to:

  • Identify exactly which CPT codes dietitians can use for MNT (yes, it’s plan-dependent, but don’t stress, I’ll break it down).
  • Understand the difference between Medical MNT billing vs. preventive services under the Affordable Care Act.
  • Understand the difference between fully funded and self-funded insurance plans (THIS is the biggest mistake I see you all making)
  • Recognize which ICD-10 codes are commonly accepted by major insurers.
  • Know the key billing exclusions (like who accepts Z codes, who doesn’t, unit limits, and more).
  • Apply foundational best practices if you’re new to MNT billing and coding.

A VERY IMPORTANT Note

This class is NOT a complete “how to bill” training - that’s what my group Reimbursement Coaching Programs are for.

We are just talking about coding and billing for MNT

NOT credentaling.

NOT the CAQH.

NOT EMRs.

NOT claim rejections.

Instead, we’ll zero in on the nuances and quirks of the big insurance players: Aetna, Anthem, BCBS, Cigna, Medicare, and UnitedHealthcare/Oxford/UMR.

I won’t be covering state-specific plans like Medicaid or regional carriers (e.g., ConnectiCare, Harvard Pilgrim, Humana).
